Rep. Klinzing — a public high school social studies teacher — believes
strongly that, in these times of tight government budgets, the one area that
must be protected is K-12 education. That’s why Klinzing voted to shield K-12
classrooms from per-pupil funding reductions when balancing the state’s huge
budget shortfall. Klinzing also chief-authored a bill to require school
districts to spend at least 55 percent of their total operating expenditures on
regular classroom instruction, and she co-authored the new academic standards
replacing the controversial “Profile of Learning,” which was repealed in 2003
under other legislation co-authored by Klinzing and signed into law by Gov. Tim
Pawlenty.
